STRATEGIC FORESIGHT EXPERT

Strategic Foresight Expert

Most organizations are too busy managing today to think seriously about tomorrow. As a strategic foresight expert, I help break out of that cycle. Together we map the developments that matter for your organization, build future scenarios, and translate them into concrete decisions for now.

Research shows that organizations that apply strategic foresight structurally are 33% more profitable and grow 200% faster than competitors that do not.

Why Strategic Foresight?

The future does not announce itself. But it does leave traces: in technology, regulation, demographics, and shifting values. A strategic foresight expert helps your organization spot those traces early, before competitors do.

Foresight is not about predicting what will happen. It is about preparing your organization for multiple possible futures, so that the decisions you make today remain sound, regardless of how things develop.

My approach: 5A model

Every foresight trajectory I lead follows a structured process. Not a standard consultant’s framework, but a method built on years of research and practice with leadership teams across Europe and the US.

Each Strategic Foresight project is customized. Nevertheless, I use a systematic approach. My methodology is based on the Framework Foresight of Bishop and Hines. I also call my method the 5A model.

  • Anticipate: Defining the scope and time frame. How far do we want to look ahead and what elements do we all include?
  • Analyze: Analyzing trends and signals, for example in my lecture trends 2040.
  • Articulate: Developing future scenarios, for example, through scenario planning.
  • Assess: Adjusting plans and strategies based on insights from the previous steps and conducting small experiments.
  • Act: Continuously monitoring and adjusting the course. Strategic Foresight activities are never finished.

I like to compare this method to sailing – you have to constantly read the environment and adjust your approach accordingly. During the kick-off, we discuss which steps are needed and how we are going to complete them.

In this video, I explain all the steps:

Strategic foresight methods I use

Depending on the question and the organization, I draw from several established foresight methods: horizon scanning, scenario planning, trend analysis, and futures workshops. Each method is chosen to match your context. Scenario planning in particular is a powerful tool for leadership teams; it is also available as a dedicated workshop.

Step out of 5A model Method
Anticipate Kick-off with project team
Analyze Horizon scanning / Trend audit / Interviews / Trend analysis with AI (see video) / Delphi method / Online consultation / Future Triangle / Implication tree / Impact Matrix
Articulate Scenario Planning (see page) / Science Fiction Prototyping
Assess Strategy Session / Backcasting / Wind Tunnel / Strategy Playbox / Change Agenda
Act Strategic Foresight Team / Chief Futurist Officer / Futures Think Tank

Interested in one or more methods? Make a no-obligation inquiry.

Throughout the process, I provide project management if desired, such as communication with workshop participants, and the like.

Case Study

At the Copenhagen Institute for Future Studies, I worked on a case study on urban mobility for car manufacturer Volvo.

Frequently asked questions

These are frequently asked questions and answers about Peter’s sessions.

A strategic foresight expert helps organizations systematically explore possible futures. This goes beyond trend watching. It involves structured methods to build future scenarios, identify early signals of change, and translate those insights into strategy and decisions.

Regular strategy typically starts from the present: what do we have, and what can we do with it? Strategic foresight starts from the future: what might the world look like in 5 to 15 years, and what does that mean for us today? Foresight widens the strategic conversation before choices are made.

Most trajectories start with a scan of relevant trends and uncertainties in your sector. Then we build two to four future scenarios together with your team. Each scenario is a plausible story about how the world could develop. In the final step we draw strategic lessons and identify decisions that hold up across all scenarios.

Organizations that face significant uncertainty about the future: governments planning long-term policy, companies entering new markets, boards reviewing their strategy, or leadership teams preparing for a direction change.
